Matt Roy was born on December 14th, 1989. He was a part of the local gymnastics program from ages 4-5. After a few activities that Matt didn't like he opted to quit but his mom would only let him quit gymnastics if he picked up something else. His mom suggested piano, and young Matt, who was just excited to get out of gymnastics, agreed.
He started taking lessons at age 5 from a woman and continued for about 7 years. Matt hated taking lessons and never practiced so he never really progressed. He also played every sport from the start of middle school till the end. As the star player on almost all of these teams it was assumed that Matt would be an athlete.
When Matt turned 13 his teacher got into a near fatal plane mishap. She moved to Texas to spend the rest of her life with her family. Matt stopped taking lessons and practicing until November of 2006. When he was searching for "To Zanarkand" on YouTube he came across an improvisation of the piece by YouTube pianist Kyle Landry. After some research into improvisation he asked for a full sized keyboard for Christmas, which he got.
Over the next 2 years Matt progressed and started developing his own style of playing. He now attends a music school where he studies to become a music teacher and composer. Over those 2 years Matt also got jobs playing piano at a restaurant a museum and a nursing home.
On YouTube and BlogTV, Matt gained lots of supporters who still follow him today. Matt and music producer/webmaster Mark Hilkemeijer of It’s eS productions are planning on making Matt’s first album.
